What Does Llm Stand for in Law

Selena Gomez just joined the many celebrities who are speaking out against the anti-abortion laws that are currently being passed in Alabama and other Southern states.

Earlier this week, the state of Alabama placed an outright ban on abortion, even in extreme cases of incest and rape. This bill, and other heartbeat bills passed in Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Ohio, directly contradicts the ruling of Roe v. Wade and people across the country are outraged. This morning, Gomez took to her Instagram to express her disbelief and disappointment about the new legislation.

Taking to her Instagram, the I Can't Get Enough singer wrote, "To see what is happening right now in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and several other states in our country is not only deeply upsetting but seems that it can't possibly be real in 2019. It's no one's business what a woman chooses to do with her body. End of story. If you want to help fight this, click on the link in my bio to find out how you can volunteer or make a donation."

This is not the only time that Gomez has used her platform for good. The singer is fully aware of the level of influence her fame affords her. She has spoken openly about her struggles with social media, believing it to be terrible for those in her generation. However, the actress is also aware of the responsibility that comes with having such a large following. "I'm grateful I have a platform. I don't do a lot of pointless pictures. For me, I like to be intentional with it." Gomez recently stated at a press conference promoting her new film The Dead Don't Die.

Gomez's incredible impact

Though this short message may not seem like a big deal to some, we cannot discount the level of impact that the actress has. With over 150 million followers on Instagram alone, the actress is the 3rd most followed person on the planet. It's great that the PUMA designer is using her platform to speak out about important issues that are affecting women across the country.

Gomez urges fans to donate

In addition to posting a heartfelt message, the singer also urged fans to get involved by donating their time or their money. This was a great move because it shows that the 26-year-old understands that not everyone is able to donate money for financial reasons. It was smart that the singer used her platform to encourage fans that money is not the only way that they can make an impact. By doing this, Gomez made the dialogue a more inclusive one that more Americans have the opportunity to participate in.

Planned Parenthood

But what organization did the fashion designer urge people to donate to? The link posted in Gomez's bio links to Planned Parenthood's website and lists ways that people can get involved with the organization. Planned Parenthood has been under attack for the last several years because one of the services that they provide women with are safe abortions.

However, that is just a small facet of their offered care. Planned Parenthood also offers birth control, pap smears, STD testing, well-women exams, cancer screening, cancer prevention exams, infertility services, hormone therapy, and much more. Clearly, this was a wonderful choice of organization for Gomez to throw her support behind.

Gomez should be commended for using her platform to speak on such a polarizing issue. With her massive following, she has a real opportunity to help change the way people think about anti-abortion laws. We're glad to see that she is using her social media accounts to do just that.
